430 Sends. Two Clicks. The Open Wasn’t the Goal.

A day-four email produced only two clicks from 430 sends, making the real bottleneck impossible to ignore.

Start here

This day-four email was not meant only to be read. Its job was to send interested subscribers to the next page in the funnel. Out of 430 sends, only two people clicked.

This applies to you if: you judge emails mostly by open rate even though the email is supposed to generate a click, reply, purchase, or other next action.

The number that mattered was not at the top of the funnel. It was the two people who took the next step.

One of our day-four funnel emails went to 430 people. Two clicked.

The sequence had a 26.23% cumulative open rate, but that topline number distracted from the actual job of this email: move the reader to the next page.

I stopped asking whether the email was “good”

I gave it one measurable job instead. Then I read every sentence as friction between the reader and that click. Was there one promise? One destination? One reason to act now?

Steal this

  1. Write the email’s single job above the draft.
  2. Measure clicks per delivered email, not opens alone.
  3. Remove every paragraph that does not increase desire or reduce doubt about that click.

Open rate tells me I earned attention. The click tells me whether I did anything useful with it.
