Document the Money Path Before You Add More Traffic
The business could be handed off because another operator could trace visitor, subscriber, offer, and sale.
Traffic can hide a messy business for a long time. When enough people keep arriving, it is easy to assume the machine underneath them makes sense. Numbers are going up. Emails are being sent. Money comes out somewhere. Please do not ask which automation owns the middle.
Avocadu had years of content and multiple ways a reader could enter. During the handoff, the important question was not only “How many articles are here?” It was “Can another person trace how a visitor becomes a customer without me narrating the trip?”
The money path had to leave my head
We needed the forms, sequences, offers, core pages, and recurring work connected in a way another operator could follow without a guided tour every Monday morning. A diagram was useful, but the real test was whether each step named the account, owner, trigger, destination, and finish line.
Mapping this also exposes paths that look obvious only because the founder has memorized them. If the welcome email points to an offer, where is that email edited? If the checkout fires a sequence, who knows when it stops? If a page is the main conversion path, what tells us it is healthy?

- Trace the exact form, emails, offer, checkout, and delivery path.
- Give the map to someone else and note every place they have to ask you what happens next.
You’re done when: Another operator can trace one visitor from source to sale without asking you what happens next.
Those questions are not interruptions or proof that the new operator “doesn’t get it.” They are the missing documentation politely introducing itself. Fix those gaps before pouring more traffic into a path nobody can confidently explain.
