The SEO Brief I Use When Ahrefs Is Unavailable

When Ahrefs ran out of reporting units, I used live search results and left unsupported metrics blank.

Checklist separating live search evidence from unavailable keyword metrics.
Keep the supported decisions. Leave the unavailable metrics blank.

Ahrefs ran out of reporting units while I was auditing a Visible Light tool page. I could stop—or pretend I knew numbers I could not verify.

I chose a third option.

The fallback brief

  1. Search the exact target query.
  2. Record the formats and repeated elements in the live top ten.
  3. Scan the site for pages already answering the same intent.
  4. Leave volume and difficulty blank.

I could still support decisions about tool placement, examples, FAQs, limitations, and internal links. I simply could not support a claim about keyword volume.

Steal this

Define your fallback before the tool fails: live SERP review, Search Console evidence, a cannibalization scan, and a visible list of metrics you will not guess.

A missing metric changes what I can claim. It does not give me permission to manufacture certainty.
